So, how do we let people who might be interested know about this site? Anyone aware of local groups we could inform? How about how we get the word out statewide?

E-mailed Michele, Pat, and Dermot with wiki info. Also passed the URL on to Karen J. and Marie who expressed an interest. Slowly, the word begins to spread ...

Yer local Ester Republican discovered this site yesterday via the Fairbanks Pedestrian, and promptly put it on her blog. I've signed up and will, if it's okay with the rest of you, write up a little note about it for the next edition of The Ester Republic; that ought to get you quite a few members. I've got a fair number of readers of my blog, too, so that may also get you more members.

Hey, this is the Diva at Celtic Diva's Blue Oasis I've been a seeker of organic and local foods for awhile and interested in having a group like this. I was a user of Full Circle Farm for awhile (may start up again this winter) but I always buy Alaskan when available.I'm writing a story right now about local foods from AK Root Cellar and will add you on my blog as well. The trick with you guys is not letting people turn this into a "partisan" issue. Everyone of every political persuasion is concerned about their food (or they should be). My sister-in-law is very Republican but neither of us could convince her Republican husband that this was not just "Liberal" stuff...until he met some big-wig Republican think-tank guy who was an avid organic food consumer and locavore. The only way many of us may be able to afford to eat any more is to boost up our local agricultural economies, if we don't have the space to grow it all ourselves. Oh - and find every "mommy blog" and "homeschooler blog" you can. Most guys come to believe in this stuff through their wives, moms, etc... I know that's been true in my house! 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Alison Arians, who handles publicity for the South Anchorage Farmers Market (http://www.southanchoragefarmersmarket.com), writes a newsletter that has a pretty extensive reach across the state. Alison also is president of a new group called the Alaska Farmers Market Association that held its first meeting on Sept. 23, 2008.

Also, Fran Durner writes a gardening blog for the Anchorage Daily News and Jeff Loewenfels writes a regular gardening column for the Anchorage Daily News (Jeff's column is the longest continuous-running gardening column in the country right now). You also might contact the folks who run the Alaska Grown site, http://www.alaskagrown.org. I also need to correct the South Anchorage Farmers Market link above to http://southanchoragefarmersmarket.com.
